Artist's Comments

Based on a scene from the Gormenghast novels by Mervyn Peake. She's my favorite character from that series, too.

I feel like the proportions and the pose have a lot wrong with them, but I don't know why, because I never drew her a skeleton. I just painted the dress and went from there, which I kind of regret. I do a better job of things if I think them through.

I am pretty pleased with how the bubbles came out, but I think the rippling effect of the surface, well, it's a good first try. I'll give it a few more tries, see if I can't get it to look less like paint brush marks. Anybody know anything about how to do that?

And any critique would be enormously appreciated. :D

Oil on canvas, about a month in AP Studio Art from start to finish.

If you're looking to smooth your brush strokes with oil, use galkyn or galkyd (same things, different name depending on brand). It really helps!

everyone says "I want to be an artist when I grow up". No one ever says "I want to be flat broke when I grow up".

Never underestimate a girl with a limitless imagination and a Goodwill nearby...

It's hard to say about the proportions because of the way her hair would be poofing out in the water... at first glance I agreed with you, but the longer I looked the more I thought they weren't that far off, if off at all. Slick pic, though. Your art has REALLY been improving lately :) Good job!

The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians, who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, and walk out the door, and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.

thank you very much! :D I'm glad it worked out so nicely.
